The project of achieving an Algerian Nigerian gas pipeline started effectively after two British engineering and design departments handed over their assessment results to the Algerian and Nigerian authorities.
The report unveiled a high profitability in exporting gas from Nigeria across Algeria towards Europe.
The project's cost is estimated at $8 to 10 billion. It faced some difficulties and as regards funding on the grounds of the hesitation showed by the most important companies, financial institutions and investors to find the formulas likely to achieve the profitability as a guarantee and enable the study, carried out in 16 months by both British engineering and design departments, reassure the prospective financing investors given the reputation that both departments enjoy.
The study defined the most features and characteristics connected to the project. The feasibility study confirmed the importance of the project, which provides additional quantities of gas in favour of Europe. Meanwhile, the European average of gas consumption is rising.
The study also referred to the existence of importance premises along the way from the main port in the Delta of Niger and the second main port of Beni Saf for the countries situated in the west of the Mediterranean such as Spain and France and El Kala for the countries situated in the East of the Mediterranean such as Italy, Turkey and Greece.
