Nigeria's oil and gas industry regulator, the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, has okayed 13 permits to two companies for delineated acreage surveys since September 2006.
These companies are American oil giant, Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited that got 12 of the permits while the gas supply arm of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Nigerian Gas Company cornered one. Within the period under reference, 15 oil companies applied for the PTS.
These included Elf Petroleum Ltd, the upstream arm of the Total Group which submitted the highest number of applications for 10 surveys; Shell Petroleum Development Company, two; while Chevron Nigeria Ltd, Pan Ocean Oil Corporation and Midwestern Oil and Gas Ltd submitted one application each. Sources say third party letters on these applications have been prepared and dispatched.
