GROUP Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has been commended for taking the initiative of taking back the refineries from the buyers and setting up the necessary machineries to bring them back on stream. Yinka Agoro, managing director of the Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemicals (KRPC) dropped the hint recently during the GMD’s visit to the refinery. “I would not conclude this speech without thanking the GMD, the number one refiner in the country, for taking the bull by the horn and snatching the refineries back from our detractors,” he said.
The Kaduna refinery boss, who was apparently referring to the cancellation of the sale of two of the country’’s refineries by this present administration, also said that if a little fraction of the funds earmarked for the upstream sector were to be spent on the downstream, the country would not be where it is today. According to him, if the refineries were well-funded, the country would have been talking of capturing the West African sub-regional market. He said that the new KRPC management wanted to be proactive in approach.
