IN an effort to boost its services nationwide and bring about a rapid and data-based system of its entire operations Oando Plc, one of the major players in downstream sector of the oil and gas industry has implemented the Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), a foremost information technology package developed by Oracle Corporation. Oando has also engaged the services of Global Technology Services (GTS), a subsidiary of Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC) of Dubai in the actual software implementation that would ensure best practices and optimize knowledge transfer from GTS to Oando's implementation team. Addressing newsmen at a media briefing to herald the success of the project Oando's group chief strategy officer Mr Abiola Lawal stated that with the implementation of the N600 million packages, there has been a tremendous improvement in the company's services to its clients.
He attributed the success of the programe to the support provided by Oando's management and a show of understanding by GTS, the implementation partner. According to him, Oando now has a greater visibility and control of its financial systems, as well as an improvement in overall workforce performance. “We are delighted to celebrate our success story today. Study shows that the industry success rate for ERP implementation is 30 percent, hence generally over 70 percent of ERP implementations often fail to reach their objectives due to ineffective change management, system implementation and infrastructure issues. But as a company with world class aspirations, we took steps in the right direction by concentrating on the critical success factors to ensure we record remarkable success,” he explained.
The group strategy officer also disclosed that the company had trained its staff on this new technology, adding that there is no fear of job loss. “Oando is a high-growth company- it is going into new businesses thereby deploying its people in value-added areas instead of non-value added areas, everybody is being trained, so there is no fear of job loss,” he said. Desi Lopez, vice-president and managing director of Oracle Corporation (African Operations) highlighted the benefits of the technology packages to include, reduction of labour costs, risk reduction and easy modification of business processes.
According to him, the objective of the programme is to reform the company's core business processes and modernize the supporting IT infrastructure for more growth and greater integration. “We are proud to provide Oando with the state of the art software needed to actualize its corporate vision. We in Oracle Corporation have pledged our continued support in offering comprehensive maintenance and problem resolution offerings that suit the company's business, the breadth of our knowledge and the scale of our support ensure Oando technology's future. Also commenting on the development Tokunbo Durosaro, general manager, Corporate Services, Oando Plc stated that all stakeholders that have business relationship with Oando now have cause to smile in view of this new initiative. According to her, the company's customers, employees, vendors and dealers have experienced remarkable improvement in services offered by Oando Plc.
